What makes 2 John special?

Second John reads like a letter with standard greetings and conclusions. It encourages Christ's followers to love each other and to obey the truth.

Why was 2 John written?

Besides encouraging the Lord's followers, the letter warns them about the liars and enemies of Christ who were claiming that Jesus Christ was not truly a human being. The writer says that the Lord's followers should not welcome these liars into their homes.

The “special woman” (verse 1) and the “special sister” (verse 13) probably refer to two different groups of the Lord's followers rather than to two individuals. See also the Introductions to 1 John and 3 John.
